FLAX: land to sea

FLAX: land to sea is a short documentary, currently in pre-production, which follows the work of Simon and Ann Cooper of Flaxland and the sustainable possibilities of Flax in the maritime industry.

Filming began in November 2024 at the Clovelly Herring Festival and will be completed in the summer of 2026 with the harvesting of the Flax, with post production following closely after. This is a collaborative project with Emilie Sandy and Tom Crawford.

Flax processing is currently listed as endangered on the Heritage Craft’s Red List. You can read more about the craft here, where Simon and Ann are listed in the section ‘Craftspeople Currently Known’: https://www.heritagecrafts.org.uk/craft/flax-hemp-and-nettle-bast-fibre-processing/
